News & Notes From Atlantic City Golf Vacations

August 9th 2013 | Posted by

Hi Traveling Golfer:

Some new Atlantic City Restaurants just opened and might have a major impact on Atlantic City reaching it’s goal of becoming a World Class Resort Destination.  I have been doing this Atlantic City thing for many years and it is really starting to feel like Atlantic City is turning the corner on, once again, re-inventing itself in a bigger and better way than ever before.  Case in point is Margaretville at Resorts Casino.  This is a partnership between Resorts Casino and Jimmy Buffett to create a very fun and lively place to hang out and enjoy the lifestyle, Parrot Head or not.

There is the Five O’Clock Somewhere Bar on the Casino side and just across from the Casino is The Land Shark Bar which is right on the beach and promises to be Atlantic City’s first Year Round Beach Bar.  This is an awesome place.  Check it out.

Not to be outdone, Tropicana Casino responded with several new Restaurants of their own.  The grand opening featured many local and Philadelphia Sports and Entertainment Celebs.  It was a good time.  The new restaurants introduced were Broadway Burger Bar, Casa Taco and Tequila Bar, Perry’s Pizza, Tony Luke’s Philly Famous Cheese Steak Shop and the Grand Daddy of them all is Chickie’s and Pete’s Crab House and Sports Bar.

If you are not from Philly you might not know that Chickie’s and Pete’s is one of the top 5 Sports Bars in the Nation.   The one at Tropicana has 575 seats and is 2 floors overlooking the Beach and Boardwalk.  It is a very impressive place and will be a fine addition to Atlantic City’s fun line up of Great Restaurants.

Since this is a Golf Vacation Company I guess we better throw in a Golf Package to keep up appearances.  Here is one of our Golfer’s Favorite.

2 Nights at Resorts Casino at the Brand New Margaretville
1 Lunch
3 Rounds of Golf
All Green Fees, Cart and Taxes – from $295.00 per person

The Merion Golf Club Hosting the US Open

May 15th 2013 | Posted by

The Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, which is a suburb on the west side of Philadelphia, will be hosting the 2013 US Open this June.

Although Merion has hosted numerous USGA tournaments, it has never hosted an open championship due to space constraints. The course was smaller than any other course used for such an event. Notice my use of “was” in that sentence?

That is right, Merion Golf Course was actually lengthened by almost 350 yards specifically for hosting this year’s US Open.

So… with that being said, who is to say that a South Jersey Golf Course wouldn’t be next for hosting such a prestigious golf event? Interested in reading more on the topic of why a golf course in South Jersey should be next, be sure to check out our post on golfac.tumblr.com.

Selecting the Perfect Starter Set of Golf Clubs

May 10th 2013 | Posted by

There is great importance in selecting the right set of beginner’s clubs because they can provide a sense of confidence for a golfer just starting out.

For many people, price is a determining factor when making your first purchase so be sure to your research and ask for help. If you are not able to seek assistance from a friend, relative or instructor be sure to ask the pros at the golf shop. They are usually extremely knowledgeable and are there to provide shoppers with guidance.

When price isn’t an option, custom fit clubs are your best option for optimizing your full potential. For more information on start sets including the average price for adult and junior starter sets as well as the price range for custom fit clubs, be sure to read atlanticcitygolf.net ‘s  guest post on worldbestsports.com.

Proper Golf Attire For Men & Women

April 30th 2013 | Posted by

A common question that often surfaces when working within the golfing profession is in regards to golfing attire and what is appropriate.

Although you should always look presentable, the specifics for what should be worn is dependent on where you will be golfing. For instance, will you be going to a public or private golf course.

This is important because there is often a stark difference in a public vs. private course when it comes to dress because private clubs often require their players to wear proper attire. These clubs may enact a dress code that may require collared shirts and/or a no-denim rule. Although not as common, some courses may even implement a no shorts rule.

For this reason, it is always important to call ahead and check with the receptionist at the golf club/course. This is especially true for if you are unfamiliar with the golfing facility. It is not uncommon for someone on a golfing getaway to accidentally forget to inquire about dress codes so, think ahead by calling to confirm.

For more information on the specifics of golf attire, be sure to read our guest blog post on coolsportinggoods.com.

McCullough’s Emerald Links – The Grand opening last week of the Famed area Restaurant and Steakhouse was last Friday.  The little Pub and Grille Restaurant was transformed into a Grand Library Restaurant in record time.  Great atmosphere, great steaks and an awesome salad bar are just a few of what made The Library Restaurant Famous in it’s previous location.  Much luck to The Library Family and our good friends at McCullough’s Emerald Links.

If you don’t know, The Library Restaurant is a unique dining experience where you go up to the window of the kitchen window and tell the Chef how big a cut you want and how you want it cooked.  Check it out.

Sand Barrens Golf Course – Sand Barrens Golf Course is starting a 9 and Dine program.  That is 9 holes of Golf capped off with a Fabulous Dinner in their Oaks Restaurant.  This exciting program starts July 7th and runs through August 25th.

Sea Oaks – Jeff Boniky, famed GM at The Club and one of the grand characters in South Jersey Golf reports that there will be an extension of the Veranda and Patio to enhance the guest experience.  What I would call BIG NEWS is they are bringing back drinking water on the Golf Course.   Let’s hope it does not cut into he beer sales…..just kidding.

First and foremost, Jeff wanted to let everyone know that great service is their # 1 priority this year.  Not that it was not before.  It is just something so important to them that they want to re-dedicate themselves to the principle of outdoing themselves every year because you the customer are what this is all about.

Shore Gate – BIG BIG News at Shore Gate Golf Club.  Harry Bittner, long time GM at Shore Gate revealed details of their newly completed renovation of the Bunker on the Par Five Sixth Hole.  With over 4 feet of sand and upwards of $30K in expenditure it just shows, once again, the Course’s dedication to building upon what is already an amazing Golf Experience.

By the way, this renovation makes it much easier to escape that once intimidating bunker…Halleluiah!

Harbor Pines – Fun stuff going at Harbor Pines Golf Club.  They are having a Mother’s Day Dinner May 12th.  Yes, that is Mother’s Day.  And here is a real good one for you.  How about attending their Tax Relief Pot Luck Dinner on April 17th, 2 days after the tax deadline.  The price is $10.99 a person.  Get it 1099!

Bob Ewing, GM at Harbor Pines is proud to announce their new Director of Golf, Bill Torlucci.  Bill was previously the Director of the storied Wildwood Country Club.  Bill intends to bring that same Private Golf Club experience to his new home at Harbor Pines.  Best of luck to Bill and Harbor Pines.

Atlantic City Country Club – Spring Glow Ball Tournament is back by popular demand on Friday Night May 17th.  The is a Big Time Party event that is reaching iconic proportions!  6 Holes of Night Time Glow Ball, Amazing Party, Prizes, Buffet Dinner and enhanced Golf Cart services is making this year the best year ever.  Contact Rotten Ronnie Ralston at the Course for pricing and more info.

Blue Heron Pines – Things a little quiet on the Blue Heron front but I suspect some big announcements are just on the horizon.  One thing I can report is that they have completely renovated their “The View” Pub.  It is open and ready for business.  It looks awesome and the beer is ice cold.

They completed their Spring aeration 10 days ago so they are in great shape right now for your Golfing Enjoyment.

Seaview Golf Resort – Seaview Golf Resort General Manager, Kevin DeDonato is excited to announce some serious proof of Seaview’s continued dedication to improving the guest golf experience.  Besides a tremendous amount of re-sodding they are replacing all the Collars and Surrounds on the Pines Course.

In addition, there is a total renovation of the tee boxes on the 5th and 7th holes of the Bay Course.  Way to go Seaview Golf Resort.

Exericise Without Realizing It

March 29th 2013 | Posted by

Many people have a hard time working exercise into their daily routine so why not work into your day so you are exercising throughout the day.

This can be accomplished by making small lifestyle changes such as always taking the stairs instead of the elevator or making a point to park further away from mall or store entrances.

Other ideas include getting involved in playing a sport. You may have enjoyed tennis or basketball at some point so, why not discover that passion? Joining a local volleyball or kickball team may also help motivate you to carve out time for physical activity.

Involvement in recreational activites that involve physical exercise is another idea. For example, golf is a sport that involves a descent amount of walking especially if you elect to not rent a cart.  This is my personal favorite as my family knows that when they cannot find me, I may be at the Shore Gate Golf Club walking the course while breathing in that fresh air off the ocean (only a few miles away!)Other activities include winter sports like skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing.

As you can see, there are endless options for when looking to casually work physical activity in your day-to-day. So, instead of pressuring yourself to go to the gym- simply, work it in!

Avoid Wedding Planning Errors

March 21st 2013 | Posted by

Golf courses are beautiful so they aren’t only utilized for playing golf. Many people choose to get married on or overlooking golf courses, becauseit is an ideal backdrop for a romantic ceremony or celebration.

Some country clubs also have an event planning staff to assist couples in planning their special day. This is very convenient because the event planning professionals work right there at the venue so they are reliable. When couples decide to have a professional do all of the planning, they are able to enjoy themselves more because they aren’t consumed with ensuring everything is running smoothly.

For more information on how hiring a professional can help couples avoid event planning errors, read this guest post promoting events at the Sand Barrens Golf Club that is posted to allweddingtalk.com.

Golfing During the Winter Months

March 15th 2013 | Posted by

For those that have  been weathering the cold weather, NICE JOB! For those that have been hibernating during this time, it is time to step outside your comfort zone and get off on that golf course.

If golf is something you love, do not let the cooler weather intimate you. Start small and get out there now – early spring. You will shortly realize that weather does not matter. Well… as long as there isn’t snow and ice on the ground, in which case golf courses are closed.

Golfing in cooler weather has its hurdles but in all honesty, it can sometimes prove to be more enjoyable since its not overly hot and humid. Golfing within the common conditions associated with winter may require a few adjustments but is definitely possible. Golfers will want to of course want to dress appropriately and prepare for slower putting surfaces and muddy terrain.
